SOUTHERN JIVERS R'N'R
CLUB - HISTORY OF THE CLUB - CHELMSFORD ESSEX
INFO - CALL ANNA 07767 745 770
Southern Jivers was formed in March 2004.
My idea was to start a club in Chelmsford on a Sunday afternoon to
include Jive tuition combined with a Record Hop supported by DJ Dinger's
Record Hop. In addition band nights on Saturday nights (usually the 4th
Saturday of the month)
Chelmsford being the County Town of Essex is an ideal location giving
easy access from all the major routes A12, M25, A127 and A130, A131..
Bus & Trains Stations are also close by.
Our resident D J ROCKET RECORD HOP spins the wax!! those were they days
but of course now with CD's!! Something for everyone to enjoy: Jivers,
Strollers, Doo Wop, Boppers and some swing!! JOHN our expert dance
instructor will help you to learn to jive as an optional addition to our
record hops.
It wasn't long before the numbers steadily grew from 12 to now an
average of 70 each week at our Sunday afternoon record hop sessions
2-5pm - check
'Home Page' for dates, usually every
other Sunday It was
evident that there were people who wanted to learn to Jive as well as
enjoy a good afternoon of Rock 'n' Roll in a friendly and welcoming
atmosphere. Admission see
'Home Page' (inc. jive tuition optional)
On 10 September that year we announced our Grand Opening with Jive
Street and world champion jivers Mark and Genievive. The evening was a
huge success and we have gone from strength to strength.
Southern Jivers has hosted some great rockin nights with a variety of
bands including: Jive Street, The Alabammer Slammers (now The Slammers
Maximum Jive Band), The Fat Cat Trio, Memphis, The Stingrays, The
Midnight Flyers, The King Cats, Bootleg Buddy and the Classics, The Rat
Pack, Jive Romero's. The Heartbreakers, The Sunsetters, Cat and the Hot
Tin Trio, The Sundowners, B17's, The Rhythm Boys, Memphis, The Bricklane
Boogie Boys, The Rockin Bandits, Cliff and The Cavaliers, Rockin The
Joint, Jive Krazy, The KoolKatz, The Class of 58,
Good Rockin Tonite, Crazy Jay & The Partytimers, Wayne Smart plus The
Moonshiners
A new alternative second venue was opened at ECC Triangle Sports &
Social Club on Saturday 3rd June and was headed by the Heartbreakers a
well known rockin band on the scene and The Sun Setters a new band on
the rockin scene. This proved to be a a most successful evening for our
first night at this venue.
We have held an Elvis Tribute night on 8 January 2006 which was a great
celebration. A Buddy Holly Tribute was held on Easter Saturday 2006. We
hope to hold other Tribute nights in the future.
We aim to help promote new bands on the scene and look forward to seeing
many more in the future along with our well established groups.
Absolute Event Security provide our door supervisors who are fully SIA
trained.
We hope to continue to provide a club that promotes Rock'n'Roll at its
best and invite you to join us in the future.
Come and learn to Jive at our Sunday afternoon record hops You can learn
in a relaxed friendly informal atmosphere (not like a structured class)
There's no need to bring along a partner, there are many members that
come along to enjoy the 1950's Rock 'N' Roll music at it's best.
We welcome all ages & under 14's are free
